I just saw this. Not sure if it is old news here, but there is a working police chief in Wisconsin selling a program (in his uniform) to help police applicants beat their polygraph. I just can't belive the city trustees would approve of such a thing. Below is an email I received with links to the chief's program and the city for which he works. I sent the city an email with my thoughts on this...

I received a phone call today from a Polygraphist in Ohio. She was wanting to notify as many people as possible about a new website: http://www.earnyourbadge.com

This is a website that Chief Russell Ehlers of the Eagle Village, Wisconsin Police Department has started.

He is teaching people how to pass Law Enforcement Oral Interview Boards and how to pass the polygraph. If you will go to the website, you will see a video of him in his police uniform and can hear his message for yourself.

The polygraphist calling me was trying to get as much support as possible from polygraphist’s across the USA. She respectfully requests that anyone who is outraged by this Police Chief’s behavior to call and complain about him to the Eagle Village, Wisconsin City Council. Apparently one of the Council persons acts as the Police Chairman. He is identified as Police Chairman Greg Sheff, he can be reached at (262) 594-3303 or (414)254-4484.

This is a link to the Eagle Village Police Department http://www.vi.eagle.wi.gov/section.asp?linkid=2034&locid=188

Someone should send this link to Doug Williams and Boy George. I would do it, but alas, I am one of "The Few, The Proud, The Banned".

Remember when Doug was challenging George to an all out bare knuckles fight? Perhaps we could get a three way going with the "Cheese Chief"??

From the city web site:

It looks like their primary exports are snow and horse dung!

Ted

Chief Russell Ehlers
The fall of 2008 marked my 21st year in law enforcement. I began my pursuit in the field while living and schooling in Arizona. I studied Criminal Justice at Tucson’s Pima Community College but did not finish my studies there. I drifted in and out of the food service and security industries until, in the mid 1980s, I moved to Wisconsin. Not long after returning to my Midwestern roots, I received Wisconsin certification as a law enforcement officer and graduated the police academy at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton in the winter of 1987.

I enjoyed a 13 year career with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department until I resigned in the fall of 2000. Having already been employed since June of 1998 as a part time officer in Eagle, I accepted a full time position in the spring of 2001. I had by that time attained the rank of Sergeant and served in that position until Chief Hans Lux retired in the summer of 2004. I was promoted to the position of Chief of Police in fall of 2004 and in 2009 I celebrated my eleventh anniversary with the Village of Eagle Police Department.

I have found the position of Chief to be just as challenging as I’d suspected it would be, and much more rewarding than I could have imagined. Serving the citizens of this community has been, and continues to be an honor. The officers that make up the Eagle Police Department are unquestionably the most sincere and dedicated individuals that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Collectively, the citizens, elected officials, Village employees and Police Department staff work in harmony to build better police agency. I hold the philosophy that every government entity can always improve and that is our unending goal. If there ever comes a time that we cease to improve, it will be time for me to retire and allow the next Chief to begin his or her enhancement of this department. Until then, we will move forward with service to the citizens of Eagle as our number one priority.

I'm Chief Russell Ehlers. On behalf of the men and women of the Village of Eagle Police Department I am pleased to welcome you to our internet website and I appreciate your interest. We strive to make Eagle a great place to live, work, and visit. This information gateway is provided as one of the many tools we use to serve the public. I encourage you to visit often.

As part of our commitment to the concepts of effective policing I will always maintain a close citizen contact while directing our officers to do the same. In addition we seek the input of residents as a critical link to improving service to our greatest village asset, the citizens of Eagle.

This beautiful and growing community of nearly 2000 residents is located in the heart of the Kettle Moraine State Forest in southeastern Wisconsin. The Village of Eagle Police Department serves an area of approximately one and a half square miles including residential, commercial and light industrial.

Our department is staffed by nine sworn officers. Throughout my tenure as Chief of Police I am endlessly impressed with the creativity, dedication, and honor exhibited by the full and part time employees of this agency. As a resident you can be proud of the men and women of your police department.

Thank you for visiting our website. I encourage you to offer your comments. You may do so by using this email link. chief@eaglepolicedepartment.com

Sincerely,

Chief Russ Ehlers

He is selling this package, not giving anything away. Cost is about $95.00 for each package. Must be low pay in his Village.

Now that's what I call a disclaimer! I'd feel really comfortable about paying for or receiving anything from this guy.

It reads like one of those drug commericals on television. "It's really good stuff but it will probably kill you if you take it more than once."

Skip,

I forgot to mention that the good Chief's video no longer includes any reference or "advice" on how to beat the polygraph. I am sure that his department got an earfull from the polygraph profession. Thanks to who ever made this happen!

Why this man is still employed as a Chief of Police is beyond me. We all need to stay on top of this kind of crap.

Ted,

as I read the disclaimer you posted I was reminded of the push a couple years ago by some in our profession to provide something similar to examinees prior to any examination.

Boy, I'm glad that initiative didn't get anywhere; we'd never conduct any exams...

And if you buy two or more of the products that he endorses, you will get a RONCO vegimatic that slices, dices, chops and grates and makes beautiful julien fries.
